Lung Awareness Month – COPD

Lung Health Awareness Special Banner_2017

A great video here from the Lung Foundation Australia about an important genre of Lung Disease, COPD.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an umbrella term for conditions including emphysema, chronic bronchitis and chronic asthma which is irreversible. COPD is a lung disease that affects 14% (or one in seven) Australians aged 40 or over.* COPD is also the second leading cause of avoidable hospital admissions in Australia.*

While there is no cure for COPD, as you will note in the video, there are steps that can be taken to breathe easier and perhaps most importantly, improve quality of life, particularly if it is identified and managed early. This starts by simply, having a CHAT.

For more on COPD, please visit this link from the Lung Foundation for a variety of great resources: https://lungfoundation.com.au/patient-support/copd/

Pollen – a Trigger for Hayfever

full bud_image copy

Another very handy fact sheet here in the lead up to National Asthma-Week from the National Asthma Council about the triggering effects of Pollen on Hayfever, general Allergy & Asthma sufferers. Some very timely tips for the home, garden & out & about to keep front of mind as we approach the Australian allergy season. Thanks Asthma Council!

Take a look at the full article here: Pollen – a trigger for Hayfever

In addition to these handy steps, we all know the importance of a quality Air Purifier in removing those airborne pollens from the rooms in your home. We always say that it’s better to capture these pollen particles inside a quality air purifier filter than to be breathing them in!

Our Asthma Council Sensitive Choice approved Winix Air Purifiers will actually capture 99.97% of airborne pollen particles & smaller dispersed/exploded pollen particles right down to 0.3 of a micron & smaller.

Stay tuned to this space for more handy tips in the lead up to the National Asthma Council’s upcoming National Asthma Week. Also make sure to keep an eye on the websites of Sensitive Choice & the National Asthma Council for more useful info that has the potential to save lives.

An Air Purifier Can Help My Voice?

Elisa Photo

Sometimes our customers find surprising uses for our Dehumidifier & Air Purifier products that we don’t even know about. We were wowed when we received this stunning testimonial from Holistic Voice and Presentation Coach, Elisa James of Elisa James Haps VoicePro. Elisa purchased one of our Winix Air Purifiers to provide relief from her allergy & hay fever symptoms. As a professional speaker & voice coach/trainer, Elisa noted to us just how damaging respiratory disorders like asthma, allergies & hay fever can be to your overall voice quality. A quality air purifier can prove a vital tool in keeping these respiratory triggers at bay, without the side-effects of anti-histamines and asthma inhalers.

“As a voice coach, that also suffers from allergies and hayfever from Australian pollens and grasses, I have had a lot of students come to me with voice issues who suffer from similar problems. The only trouble is that, the medications we take to combat the symptoms of hayfever and allergies can have an adverse effect on the voice. It is very drying for the vocal folds, and sometimes even makes the voice croaky and raspy sounding. I needed to find a better solution for myself after making the decision to move back to Australia, and had no interest in turning to pills as a permanent solution. The first 2 years of being back home, I was extremely ill many times per year from Asthma and respiratory issues simply from being exposed to all my allergic triggers again. After being in and out of hospital many times I was desperate for a better, more Holistic Solution. That’s when I started researching Air-Purifiers.

After many days and hours of searching I found Ausclimate’s Winix – and I can honestly say that it has changed my life! My husband and I were seriously considering moving back to Europe, to where I had NO trouble with illness at all. To my surprise, from the very first day of using the unit, I was a different person! The day I made the call to Allan, I was miserable and having difficulty breathing as the Asthma symptoms just would not go away. Now, I use my unit every day and since purchasing it a few months ago- have had no respiratory issues whatsoever.

I highly recommend this unit to anyone who is speaker, trainer or voice-user in their job and especially if you have suffered from allergies. Now, I can remain drug-free and symptom free even when others around me are suffering! It is such a HUGE lifestyle shift and I couldn’t be happier!”

If you find that you sometimes suffer from a raspy or tired voice, I’m addition to using a quality Air-Purifier, Elisa notes some handy, simple steps that can be a great help:

Everyday voice improvement tips:
1. Make sure you stay hydrated as the mucosal lining of the vocal folds needs fluid to stay flexible.
2. Breathe fresh, clean air when you can and minimize the air-conditioned environment.
3. Suck lozenges that will support your immune system, not those that deliver pain relief or anti-inflammatories. The medicated lozenges can dry out your throat and make it harder for your vocal folds to function. Sambucol are a good brand, as they deliver good quality herbs that support the immune function and assist healing with Vitamin C, Zinc and Elderberry.
4. Stay away from foods that exacerbate mucous production : E.g: Dairy.

Thank you so much Elisa for the kind words & handy tips!

See us in-person:

Of all of the uses for a Dehumidifier, guitars might not be the first on your list, but you may be surprised. We’ve had quite a bit of interest for our Dehumidifiers from the guitar community of late, looking to protect their pride & joy.

Luke Kallquist of Kallquist Guitars in Indooroopilly, QLD is a traditional Guitar Maker & “Luthier” & is very passionate about the craft. Luke uses his Ausclimate Dehumidifier in the manufacture & followup protection & upkeep of his top-quality guitars.

“Just wanted to say what a great asset to my workshop the Ausclimate NWT medium Dehumidifier is! I am a Luthier and need to keep the workshop at a steady 40-50% RH to be able to keep the timber at it’s most stable and to give the finished instruments the best chance at survival once out in the real world and it’s fluctuating RH. Thank you to Russell and the Team for all the expertise, I would highly recommend Ausclimate and it’s Products to anyone. Thanks again, Happy Pickin”

Park Beach Plaza Coffs Harbour Visit

June’s shopping centre display at Park Beach Plaza in Coffs Harbour was again a great success for Ausclimate.

Many of our past customers came over to the display to have a chat with my partner, Chris and I, telling their story of how fantastic their recently purchased dehumidifier has been.

It’s so satisfying to hear the stories of how it’s either solved their mould problem or how their health has improved since they began using it. It’s easy for us to say how good our NWT Dehumidifiers are but it’s something else when our past customers come back and  tell us how great it’s been for them. Often saying they should have brought one from Ausclimate years ago.

Chris and I are looking forward to Ausclimate’s next trip to Newcastle. We have been receiving so many enquiries from the Hunter region this winter, often people asking when we’ll be down their way next.

We will be displaying and selling our NWT Dehumidifiers at Newcastle’s two largest shopping centres Charlestown Square and Westfield Kotara. We’ll be at Charlestown Square from Monday 29th July to Sunday 4th August and at Westfield Kotara from Tuesday 6th August to Sunday 11th August.

Chris and I are happy to answer any questions you may have and give expert qualified advice on home moisture related problems.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Comfort and Dehumidifiers

Comfort and Dehumidifiers

Your family’s comfort should always be your priority. Fortunately, products like Dehumidifiers lower humidity in the house to make your family more comfortable. This may increase your quality moments and draw your family and visitors closer to one-another.

Benefits of Having a Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers can also be helpful to people with allergy problems. It controls the humidity in a room, reducing the existence of mould and dust mites. It also protects wooden materials such as floors and beams against damages caused by too much humidity. Dehumidifiers serve more functions than simply removing moisture from your house. In addition, you can save money not only on air conditioner and fan costs, but also on medicines and treatments. Dehumidifiers come in different sizes. Choose one according to the available space in your home. Choosing a size with less capacity than your home requires may result in disappointment, wasted energy and money.

Taking Care of Your Dehumidifier

Keep your dehumidifier clean to maintain its efficiency by removing musty odours by eliminating mould and mildew.  Clean the exterior of the dehumidifier with warm water with a small amount of mild detergent. Check the filter of your unit once a month or so to ensure maximum efficiency.

What to Look for in a Dehumidifier
